DIY Cabinet Painting Fails

If you don’t know what you’re doing, cabinet painting fails are inevitable. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when painting your kitchen cabinets. Here are some common DIY cabinet painting fails.

Result of Cheap Paint

When you use cheap paint that is not specifically designed for cabinets, it can chip off with the slightest nick or peel off completely!

Result of Not Cleaning Properly

To clean properly you need to use TSP and thoroughly scrub the surface, then wipe it off with a rag wetted down in water. If you don’t wipe it off you will get the ultimate distressed look (and not in a good way).

Result of Not Removing Hinges

If you don’t remove the hinges, you won’t get a clean look. They have a tendency to collect a lot of paint and end up being a paint drip nightmare! They are also difficult to paint around properly so you will end up missing a lot of areas.

Result of Not Letting Paint Cure Completely

It takes a couple of days for the paint to cure, and there is no way around this. You just have to wait. If you don’t wait, then your freshly painted cabinets will scratch and be damaged very easily. It is always a good idea to take it easy on you cabinets for the first few weeks and avoid washing them with harsh chemicals till they have had a chance to cure.

Result of Mixing up Cabinet Doors

Labeling is very important so you can get your kitchen put back together the right way. If you don’t label you can end up with crooked cabinet doors, or doors that just plain don’t fit.

The best money I ever spent!
Darlene Davis-Porter
My cabinets are 32 years old, after Gleam Guard I use nothing but water to clean them and they look beautiful!
Mrs. Williams
I am not exaggerating when I say it looks like I just spent $15,000 for new kitchen cabinets and misc. wood trim. The kitchen cabinets were originally made to custom fit this house and to have them replaced would have been extremely expensive!
